29 weeks and still squeezin into non maternity things. i refuse to let go. its great that the tops i owned before pregnancy were mostly either oversized or reeeeeal stretchy. go me. this heat is insane by the way. trying to find things to wear for work is the tricky part. if i could come in my tiny jammy shorts and my neon dinosaur tank everyday, id be all set. but alas, i must look “work appropriate”…blahblahblah. big kid life is the worst! Also, my hair is going through a “phase”. pregnancy has really made it quite puffy and wild, im getting used to it and just letting it do what it wants…really…its too hot to try and beat it into submission anyways. i think i have officially retired the heated hair products. until december, my dearly loved straightener and curling iron, we’ll be together again soon.

thinking something in my head and remembering to say it out loud is a skill i no longer possess.

Example:

Me thinking: “man i really want an icy coffee beverage”

Barista: “what can i get for you?”

Me: “a decaf latte”

cue my major disappointment when a hot latte is handed to me and i can do nothing about it because i did not ask the nice coffee man to put ice in my drink. sad.

looked for my keys for a good 10 minutes this morning…found them in my underwear drawer

i’ve developed what i lovingly refer to as “granny back”. any time i sit for a little while or especially when i get up for my mid night pee session, i literally walk at a 90 degree angle. it looks and feels a bit like im miming the evolution of mankind.

at my appointments i now ask the nurse not to tell me my weight and i turn around so i cant see it. seriously at this point it just messes with my head. if the doc isn’t concerned…neither am i. what i dont know wont hurt me right?

chicken. fingers. its all i want. all day. urrday. chicken. fingers.

Here we are little one!

The 10 week countdown till we get to squeeze your little face has begun! I think you are a little bit too excited about it because you are kicking REALLY hard these days. So hard that you kinda stop me in my tracks every now and then. We saw the doctor yesterday and she said that you are right on track. Exactly the right size and everything! We’ve now come to the stage where we have an appointment every two weeks and we’ve talked about the signs we should be looking for in case I go into labor! WHAT! It’s so crazy how soon you are coming and your dad and i are gettin all sorts of antsy!

Our first shower is this weekend and we are so excited to see all the little things you will be wearing, sleepin in, and playing with. All of our friends and family up in bakersfield on your dads side are so happy about you and so excited to meet you :). You’re kind of a big deal.

Even though I’m getting a little nervous about what lies ahead (labor is a little scary : /) I cannot wait to hold you and to watch your dad hold you. We love you SO much! Lets make these last 10 weeks some pretty epic ones…shall we?

1. my dad is out of town for a week, and offered up their air conditioned home and pool for me and brettles to get a way and escape the heat. we happily obliged with a little over night stay on wednesday night. it was funny, because all we did is sit in the air conditioning and watched reality tv (oh the joys of cable television) and we felt sooooo relaxed. theres something about getting away (only a 30 minute drive from our house) and it feeling like we were on vacation. i think the mr. and i needed some alone time and some quiet. it was SO nice. then we pooled it up and watched independents day and had some local pizza goodness with some good friends on saturday : ). pool time while pregnant…magic : )

2. our good friend kyle married his beautiful lady natalie on sunday night at this kick a venue. it was absolutely gorgeous! we are so happy for these two. we’re kind of fans of this whole marriage thing and we get really excited when our friends get to experience it!

3. like i said this venue was amazing. not only was the ceremony beautiful, but there were all sorts of things hidden around this ranch. a ferris wheel, a petting zoo (so excited about baby goats!) and this awesome little merry-g0-round. of course we decided to have a little photo opp moment. cuz you know…we were fancy and we love being nerds.

this weekend was full and fun and i am so in need of a nap.

Pretty much every one of my friends is talented in some way or another. Whether its photography, music, baking, anything that involves being creative. I love that im surrounded by people who are artistic and who do things well, and most importantly they are just genuinely wonderful people.

One of these ladies in particular is a dear friend of mine Kim Bogardus. You should check out her photo skills here. A couple weeks ago, she took some really sweet maternity shots of me, the hubs, and this bump o mine. I L-O-V-E them! She sent them to me today and I just could not resist sharing them.

She even caught me giving brett the “you are ridiculous” face. a face that gets thrown around a lot in the lemster home.

a love letter to cotton on.

dear cotton on,

thank you. thank you for making flowy comfy things that are ginormous. thank you for allowing a 28 week pregnant woman to rock a size small. your smalls may be the size of a tent, but they say small, therefore making me feel like for, even just a moment, im not a huge beast (because im wearing my pre-pregnant size). if you had a body i would hug it with all of my might! i’m sorry that i avoided you, because i thought you wouldnt understand. and your clothes that i love so much would no longer fit me like a glove. i’ve learned my lesson and i will spend more time with you from now on. you are the best cotton on, and i love you with all of my heart.

Hello Little One!

we are diving right into summer with some above 100 degree weather these days. its a bit rough. im sure you are comfy and cozy in there, but mama is hot hot hot. and swelling like a balloon!

lately you will get a good stretch in there and i can feel one of your little limbs poking at my belly. sometimes when you roll over i can feel it go from one side of my belly to the other. its really amazing. i don’t think i could ever describe how incredible this is…to feel you moving around in there and to know that in 11 short weeks (whoa!) we get to meet you and smooch all over those little arms and legs that have been flailing around in my tummy!

we have a doctors appointment next week, hopefully we will get to see you! but i’m excited to hear about how you are growing in there!

we start our birthing classes in a couple of weeks! we’re getting all sorts of prepared for you, and we are really wishing you were here already! we love you so much penny!

1. We welcomed baby Jessen in the world with tons of oo’s and ah’s and ohmygoodness’s. hes adorable. coming in at a whopping 9 lbs 2 oz and 20 in. well done mama jessen. well done. PS…how cute does that husband of mine look toting a little babe! cant wait to watch him with penny!

2. grapes grapes grapes…all day long. it’s most likely the heat but all i want is cold fresh fruit all up in this belly. and salads. anything that is not hot, because I’ve got a serious case of permanent sweaty face going on here.

3. baby jessen again. hes so cute you guys! so glad that we have Eric and Christy next door to us, and that we get to share in this epic and crazy journey together. it has already been such a blessing to us to watch them welcome home their baby. and we cant wait until we can have little baby play dates with our little ones!

4. some side bump action. this belly is large and in charge. creating all sorts of issues with bending, sitting, laying, rolling over…younameit. i do what the belly wants to do which is pretty much lay in front of our ac unit on the floor in my elaborately made pillow lounge chair I’ve created (its sort of amazing…maybe ill post about it soon : ) )

ummmm…this week is pretty spectacular! 4th of July is here! its my favorite holiday of all time and I’m all sorts of excited to eat some BBQ and watch some fireworks! Yay!

Oh man, oh man…i have found the secret to pregnant comfort. i’m a little embarrassed to say it but, “night gowns”. you guys they are basically shirt dresses…its cotton, its knee length, it wins. so ill share with you yet again, that i am wearing jammies as a dress. i did have gold belt on earlier, but penny was not havin that today, so it is now in my purse for the time being. say it with me now…target pajama section. now go, get yourself something shapeless and let your bump revel in the freedom and comfort of a night gown as a dress.

sidenote: i felt relatively more confident that this looks more like a dress than something to sleep in after several people have said “i like your dress, katie!”…see dress. they said it not me.

we have now ventured into the phase where penny loves to rest on my bladder, and occasionally she gives me a good kick to the hooha. i know. it is as pleasant as it sounds.

holy heart burn batman. the last week every time i get into bed the heart burn rages! its kinda the worst. hopefully this doesnt continue for the remainder of pennys stay in my belly.

have i mentioned the swelling yet. if i have. i think its worth mentioning again. at the end of my work day i trudge home on what would appear to be elephant feet. they balloon up like mad, more specifically the right one…i dunno whats wrong with that foot, but its got some issues. i sit with my feet up on the back of the couch for about an hour to get those puppies back in shape. but oy are they barkin these days.

all of a sudden its like my stomach is up in my chest next to my heart. i cannot eat like i was eating before (which is probably a good thing, because i am well over the “recommended weight gain”…25 to 35 pounds…ha!

finally got that lower back pain everyones been talking about. when i get up for my nightly bathroom sesh at 4am, i walk to the bathroom like a 90 year old woman, not really getting upright again until just before i smack back into our bed (as gracefully as i can)

this bump now hits all things. door knobs, the corner of the counter top, brett, pretty much anything in its path. good thing our baby is in a protective bubble or i might be a little worried about it.
