Hello Little One!

You’ve been doing all sorts of things like kicking (or headbutting…im not really sure) my bladder.  That has been…interesting.  You also go through these fits where you kick and roll and dance about for a good solid minute and then you are silent like nothing happened.  I think you are itching to get out and wriggle your legs and arms in the open air!  Last night your dad got to feel one of these fits.  He always seems to get his hand on my belly right when your finished and only feels a thump or two, but this time he got to experience you having a rager in my belly and his eyes got so wide.  He thinks you are pretty amazing (i do too).

I think our days of second trimester face stuffing are behind us.  We have the appetite but with you growing all sorts of crazy, my stomach cant hold what our tummys really desire.  Which lately you have been craving fruity things.  You’ve still got that raisen thing going on, but now we would also like all the grapes we can eat…apples…bananas…really anything light and fresh.  the strange part about that is you mama looooves green apples and green grapes, but you want no part in that business.  red apples and grapes all day long.

you’re doing great penny!  keep up the good work in there and we get to see you so very soon!  we’re almost at the 10 week count down! yay!

we love you with all our heart!

xoxo,

M

1 & 2.  We got to visit our dear friends kim and nick and their two little weirdos Eva and Edie!  We love this fam, and we also love Kims sweet photo skillz.  She was kind enough to snap some maternity shots for our little fam bam and we had fun posing in this little lemon orchard.  we cant wait to see the final photos!  She also made us some really amazing homemade pizza and smores.  if i could id live with her and have her be my mom forever…shes kinda super mom.

3.  sunday morning i was up early enough to do a little cleanin and a little loungin on the couch.  theres something about clean quiet time that is so much more refreshing than messy quiet time.

4.  after my cleanin and loungin, i got to go have some good ol breakfast with the jessens.  it was a little bit of a “this is our last breakfast out without a baby” sort of celebration.  they went into the hospital at 8pm that night to be induced!  still no baby jessen yet…but the rumor is he should be making his debut on tuesday!  so excited to meet this little guy!

this weekend was another full one.  with friendship and a quick visit from the mom in law and little bro casey!  we’ve also had bretts younger brother garrett staying with us for a week, and im sad that hes leaving today for 5 weeks on tour with his band.  its been kinda fun having him around.  and then next weekend my brother, sis in law, and little lily bean are leaving for 6 weeks : (.  there will definitely be a sibling hole in both mind and bretts hearts this summer : (.

well…thats all for now…viva la monday my friends!

the…trying to squeeze as much life into my old clothes as possible edition.

this is all pre prego stuff.  the bump is still small enough to give me a little bit of wiggle room with the wardrobe.  this getting bigger thing is getting a bit tricky though.  i may be due for another maternity shopping spree, but we’ll ride this wave while we can.

cardigan – target (non maternity)

top – forever21 (non maternity)

skirt – from a friends closet : ) (non maternity)

flats – H&M

p.s. note the super awesome scuffed up legs.  results from the fall heard round campus.  super hot.

things you should never say to a pregnant lady…andiquote:

“wow you’re huge!”

“oh my god your so big!”

“how far along are you” “oh man you must have a big baby”

“your belly is way bigger than it should be”

“you are getting bigger!”

“look at you!” (puff cheeks and hold hand out in front of belly…simulating your size)

things you should always say to a pregnant lady:

“you look beautiful!”

“look at your tiny belly!”

“you are the most majestically gorgeous female in all the land!”

“your hair (skin, eyes, legs, pretty much anything) looks great!”

Why people feel the need to say ridiculous things to woman that are at least 30 lbs heavier than their normal state is BEYOND me.  if you see a prego…dont talk about their size, dont mention their weight or the fact that their face is a little rounder…what is that? tell them they are lovely, give them a congratulations and move on!  trust me…itll make them feel so much better.

sidenote:  those sunglasses that were “lost forever” that i mentioned in the last list of pregoprobs…i found them the other night…in my purse. again i say…pregoprobs.

Little one,

You’re my perfect, my perfect, my perfect, my perfect little peeeeenny!

That is a real song, and we sing it to you all. the. time.  You are definitely getting bigger, because yesterday you gave me a swift kick in my rib, which was not all that pleasant.  I’m so used to feeling you low and you are all over the place now.  Sometimes both sides of my belly move at the same time, which is most likely your little arms and legs moving about.  You are constantly partying it up in my belly!  You still move around while im awake and sleep when i sleep, which your dad and i pray carries over into your first few months of life on the outside.

We are officially in the 3rd trimester and we get to meet you in exactly 3 months!  goodness gracious!

your dad was doing laundry last night and accidentally washed one of your shirts (which needs to be washed eventually so…good job dad!).  we sat and looked at this tiny shirt that was pulled out of our laundry and couldn’t believe that we will have someone soon that is small enough to fit in that tiny little shirt!  you are so little and so precious.  its all so amazing!

all in all we’re feeling pretty good and you are loving everything we eat.  you have a bizarre affection for raisins. which i don’t mind at all.  they are probably a lot healthier than the chalula and ranch phase we went through.

keep on doin what your doin baby girl.  we love you a whole lot…and then some.

XOXO,

M

i have been blessed with some amazing, godly men in my life.  i mean no one is perfect…but they are pretty damn good.  my grandpa hall is still one of my favorite men of all time, and i miss him often.

1.  this man.  my dad.  the man that helped give me life : ).  through everything he has always been my dad.  with his gentle strength and constant encouragement and understanding.  hes a good one.  and i am so very lucky to have him.  im thankful that i get the privilege of being his little girl.

2.  im going to try not to be too mushy on this one, because my brother reads my blog…HI RYAN!  but i have gotten to watch my older brother who i am super close with and care very much for become a dad.  its so crazy.  lily loves him so very much and its easy to see why.  hes a wonderful father, who gives his life to take care of his family.  you’re a good dad bub.  and i cant wait to get to experience parenthood alongside you, and for beach trips with you, karen, lily, ethan, me, brett, and penny!  we’ve got a pretty awesome pocket of family growing between the two of us, and it makes me super excited about where life will lead us all next!

3. oh and then theres this guy.  my husband.  soon to be daddy, but pretty much already a great dad in my mind.  i always joke that he is a special man to put up with the likes of me, but really.  he is.  through out everything i feel nothing but love from him.  he is definitely a gift from jesus, and i cannot wait to watch him with our baby girl.  i don’t think i could ever find the words to describe how lucky i feel to have him and how happy i am that he is the man i get to have a family with.  you are loved mr. lemster…very much so.

i hope you all had a wonderful fathers day!

One question I get a lot (which i didnt expect) is “what’s the theme for your nursery?”

i usually respond with some awkward answer like..ummm colors?  but i guess that’s pretty true.  i’ve never really been a fan of things that are baby.  like full on nurserys that are decked out in winnie the pooh (i love winnie the pooh, i just dont want a ton of winnie the pooh stuff in my house).  to each their own.  if you love themes…theme it up.  get real theme-y with yo bad self.  its just not me.

the wall above penny’s crib will most likely change several times before penny’s arrival, but the idea is in motion.  the hot air balloon print is actually from an amazing little calendar that my friend faiths mom gave me for christmas.  every color in it is perfect and its a nice reference to pull from when i add things in the room.

there are SO many projects that need to be done.  like finding a dresser to refurbish for the changing table, getting the shelves up above said dresser (thanks dad!), framing prints, finishing this blanket (only one more chunky stripe to go : ) ), and im sure ill think of many more projects by the time she gets here.

its all so exciting, overwhelming, fun and stressful all at the same time!

I have a bit of a secret.  This dress is not a dress.  Its jammies and i don’t care!  Its the comfiest thing Ive ever worn and it is here to stay!  Its a very rare occasion that I actually rock my glasses (not because I dislike them, but because i actually need them to see and my larger than life prescription gives me a case of the bug eyes) but today i was feeling especially lazy (thus the jammies as a dress ordeal). viva la comfort!

  • fell down the stairs.  six concrete stairs to be exact.  baby is fine. my legs are not.
  • had my sunglasses before the fall.  have no idea where they are now and am pretty sure they are lost forever.
  • i pretty consistently leave everything open.  cupboards, drawers, milk, our fridge.  the other day brett came home and our freezer was wide open and all our ice was melted.  this is actually pretty frustrating for me, because leaving things open is a giant pet peeve of mine.  im sure this will continue to be a fun game for him.  trying to make sure our house doesnt burn down from an on straightener, or flood from a running shower. keepin him guessing.
  • wake up…starving. 930am…starving.  1130pm…starving. 3pm…starving. 5pm…give me all the food!
  • “aw man i dropped something on the floor”.  and there it will remain until the end of time.  or until brett stumbles across it or is available to help me retrieve it.

Little one,

We are on our last week of the second trimester!  WHAT? thats crazy!

some neat things and also some not so neat things happened this week.  lets begin with the neat!

you’ve started doing this really cute thing where when your dad says hello and asks you to give him a good kick or “high five” you totally thump back to him.  this could just be coincidence but it happens pretty frequently, so we’ve decided that you are a baby genius and can kick on command : ).  Also, pretty neat…your auntie karen and cousin lily lent you some really adorable outfits!  i cant wait to see your adorable buns in some of these cuties!

the not so neat is when we took a little tumble down the stairs on campus when your dad and us were having some lunch.  luckily i have a talent for falling gracefully enough to not land on you and to only really scuff the crud outta my legs.  you are safe and so am i, but it definitely was not a very fun experience.  your dad was pretty worried most of the day, but our doctor assured us all is well.  sorry for the scare little one.  its hard to not be a little clumsy when im starting to not be able to see my feet so well : ).

we’ve ventured into the double digits and you are now 98 days away (give or take a few im sure) from being inducted into this little family of ours. we are so excited!  we love you so much penelope joy.

XOXO,

M
