Penny,

I know that its a completely cliche thing to say to you but…you are growing up TOO fast.  You started crawling last week and yesterday morning you woke up with a little tiny tooth poking through your gums.  When I first discovered this I was so excited for you and then I got this rush of sadness.  You will never have a gummy smile again.  My heart sank a little bit and I realized that you will not be this small forever.  I remember holding up your 6 month jams and saying “there is NO possible way she’ll fit in these!” and these very same jams are becoming a wee bit snug on you.  How fast the time flies little one.

You. Crack. Me. Up.  We have this game we like to play where I put one of your fabric crinkle books on your head.  As soon as that thing perches perfectly on your dome you begin to chuckle.  Which launches the book into your lap and then you laugh hysterically.  We have done this for a good solid 45 minutes before it loses steam.  But then the next day…its just as funny.  I love it.

Your dad and I love playing some good quality rap music for you which usually accompanies a raging dance party.  I’m happy to report that you love this just as much as we do and notorious b.i.g. is now on the list of your favorite tunes.

You have already changed so much and you are learning like CRAZY.  I cannot wait to see what this next month brings.

You bring me such joy little one.

I love you so very much.

XOXO,

M

Little One,

We have definitely taken an interesting turn this week.  You and I are BIG and so incredibly close to full term, and we can feel it.  Sleeping is starting to get tough, and your kicks are awfully brutal these days.  Sometimes when you roll over I feel like you might bust out of my tummy and sometimes you are tucked so far to the right its hard to believe my tummy can stretch that far.  You are definitely out growing this little place you have been living for the last 8 months.  Your dad and I are SO excited because next week is our 36 week check up and we finally get to have another ultra sound.  We’ve been wanting to see you so bad!  Its hard to believe that you can really come at any time these days.  I keep reading these stories about babies coming 4 or 5 weeks early and I think about how crazy it would be if you were here so soon.  I’d really like it if you came earlier, but I understand if you need to cook a little longer.  Just not too long okay…your mama isn’t too keen on that 42 week possibility.  We still have SO much to do to prepare for you but we are so incredibly ready to meet you!

We love you Penelope Joy.

XOXO,

M

Oh hello Little one!

Here we are, 34 weeks!  We had a check up today and you are still growing right on track.  I asked our doctor how big you were and she said you were about 4 pounds!  You’re on track to being a 7 pound baby, so I’m hoping you keep growing the way you’re growing.  If at all possible we just keep getting more excited about you.  More and more things for you are pouring into our home and its so crazy to think that in 6 weeks you will be wearing these little onesies, bouncing in these little seats, and sleeping (lord willing) in your little crib.  Sometimes your dad just goes to your room and stands in the doorway looking at everything.  Its getting a bit real.

Sleep is getting a bit tricky, the more you grow.  We’ve had some 5am cereal time this last week for sure.  It’s kind of nice to sit in the early morning quiet with you.  I’m sure we will have MANY moments like that when you get here.  As tired as we’re gonna be, I’m pretty excited to hang out with you.

I love you little one.  So much!

XOXO,

M

Hello Little One,

oh man oh man…i know i say this every week.  but you, my little lady, are growing.  i feel like you have tripled in size in the last few weeks.  the other night your dad and i were reading and i started to fall asleep…and then WHAM! you kicked me right in my ribs making me sit up.  your dad had wide eyes and kept saying “i saw that! are you okay?!”  you are quite strong.  its pretty impressive, and although your kicks are not always the most pleasant thing in the world…it sure is nice knowing you are growing and movin around in there.

apples and grapes are big ticket items with us these days.  which is good because i think the whole french fry thing was getting a little out of control.  its nice to see some good for you foods sneaking their way into our day. although, the “spuderido” (a bean and cheese burrito, with french fries in it) has made a regular appearance as well.  so, its balancing out.

everyone keeps saying we have a long way to go, but i feel like the time is flying by!  august is the only thing that stands between us and you!  thats so crazy!  all of your little friends are being born, and its making me so anxious to finally have you!

we love you penny!  youre the bestest!

XOXO,

M

Hello Little One,

I am convinced that your size is doubling by the day.  It feels like all of a sudden you are massive.  Our doctor is very excited that you are exactly on track, measuring right on at 32 weeks.  So to all those people who think we look like we should be due any day…YOU’RE WRONG!  You’re doing so perfectly.  Your dad and I have started to take classes to prepare for you and it getting more and more real that you will be here with us in no time at all.

You currently love laying on your side with your head to the left and your little buns on the right, which makes my belly this really odd peanut looking shape.  It’s kinda funny that you already have little habits like this.  Lately you are totally down with pancakes, which is new.  I’m not a huge fan of pancakes but man…some little blueberry pancakes with some peanut butter on that mess…its soooo good.  I think for the first time in my whole life, we actually bought pancake mix, and plan to have a little pancake party this weekend : ).

You are introducing me to all sorts of new foods : ).

I love you little one.  8 more weeks to go and we get to hug you and squeeze you (gently of course).  Cant wait!

XOXO,

M

Little one,

You’re my perfect, my perfect, my perfect, my perfect little peeeeenny!

That is a real song, and we sing it to you all. the. time.  You are definitely getting bigger, because yesterday you gave me a swift kick in my rib, which was not all that pleasant.  I’m so used to feeling you low and you are all over the place now.  Sometimes both sides of my belly move at the same time, which is most likely your little arms and legs moving about.  You are constantly partying it up in my belly!  You still move around while im awake and sleep when i sleep, which your dad and i pray carries over into your first few months of life on the outside.

We are officially in the 3rd trimester and we get to meet you in exactly 3 months!  goodness gracious!

your dad was doing laundry last night and accidentally washed one of your shirts (which needs to be washed eventually so…good job dad!).  we sat and looked at this tiny shirt that was pulled out of our laundry and couldn’t believe that we will have someone soon that is small enough to fit in that tiny little shirt!  you are so little and so precious.  its all so amazing!

all in all we’re feeling pretty good and you are loving everything we eat.  you have a bizarre affection for raisins. which i don’t mind at all.  they are probably a lot healthier than the chalula and ranch phase we went through.

keep on doin what your doin baby girl.  we love you a whole lot…and then some.

XOXO,

M

Little one,

We are on our last week of the second trimester!  WHAT? thats crazy!

some neat things and also some not so neat things happened this week.  lets begin with the neat!

you’ve started doing this really cute thing where when your dad says hello and asks you to give him a good kick or “high five” you totally thump back to him.  this could just be coincidence but it happens pretty frequently, so we’ve decided that you are a baby genius and can kick on command : ).  Also, pretty neat…your auntie karen and cousin lily lent you some really adorable outfits!  i cant wait to see your adorable buns in some of these cuties!

the not so neat is when we took a little tumble down the stairs on campus when your dad and us were having some lunch.  luckily i have a talent for falling gracefully enough to not land on you and to only really scuff the crud outta my legs.  you are safe and so am i, but it definitely was not a very fun experience.  your dad was pretty worried most of the day, but our doctor assured us all is well.  sorry for the scare little one.  its hard to not be a little clumsy when im starting to not be able to see my feet so well : ).

we’ve ventured into the double digits and you are now 98 days away (give or take a few im sure) from being inducted into this little family of ours. we are so excited!  we love you so much penelope joy.

XOXO,

M

hello little one,

one of the sweetest little mile stones this week was feeling you have the hiccups for the first time.  im not one who enjoys repetitive motions or tapping or things of that sort.  but these cute little hiccups were awesome.  you really are a little person in there, and it amazes me every day.  even though we’re already sort of getting to know each other (in an odd way) im so very nervous to meet you and so excited at the same time.  your dad gives you plenty of hugs and kisses and i just cant wait till we both can hold you and squeeze you and kiss your little face!

one of the things you craved this week was your grandma tonis goulash.  when we ate it you tumbled about in my tummy with pure joy.  im pretty sure you love food just about as much as your family.  the halls (my side of the family unit) will be very impressed by your appetite in the years to come im sure of it.  you also are still a fan of raspberry sorbet.  we end each night with a few bites from our little pint (its still about half way full and we’ve had it for a week)  if it were up to your dad this would have been gone on day one (he has a bit of  a sweet tooth).  its kind of our little ritual.  before we go to bed your dad gets us a glass of ice water and we take our vitamins, then we have a few bites of sorbet and hit the hay! (hey that rhymed…we’ll teach you what rhyming is later).

you are definitely growing and it is not always the most comfortable experience for me when you go through your little spurts, but its so good to know that you are getting bigger and staying healthy.  i’m starting to feel you all over my tummy these days, instead of just in one little spot and i can see your little flips and thuds on the outside.  i thought it was crazy to feel you move, but to be able to see it is absolutely insane.  each day something new happens and its fun (and at some times pretty hilarious) talking about it all with each other and your friends moms and dads (they are all getting ready to be born too…you have quite the group of friends on the way actually).

you are doing awesome in there penny joy!  and your dad and i love you like crazy!

xoxo,

M

oh little lady,

we are head over heals for you!  we’ve already begun special care in getting your room all sorted out for you.  i love to think of you sleeping/not sleeping in there and growing and learning and getting lots of kisses all over your sweet little face from me and your dad.  your kicks are getting so much bigger…and higher!  the other day you kicked me so high it scared me, you are getting so big!  sometimes i get so preoccupied that i forget your in there, and then you give me a swift kick in the belly and remind me.

Yesterday we did our first pregnancy work out and let me tell you it was no easy task.  I’m gonna start taking better care of us : ).  Going on long walks with your dad and doing some work outs here and there, ill try not to move around too much so you aren’t getting all shakin up in there.

You are still super into eating things with chalula and ranch dressing.  Although today you have had a huge hankering for some sort of sorbet or an icey coffee beverage of sorts.  This heat is already doing a number on us, and i think we just want something fresh, light and chilly.

we love you penny!  keep growing strong!

XOXO,

M

This weekend was full.  It was totally fun, but oh so full, and i find myself pretty exhausted from it all today.  The heat isn’t helping much (geez California with your 100 degree weather…takeachillpill).

We were lucky to spend some mothers day time with my mom yesterday and she and her boyfriend blessed us with a crib for our little lady!  We were so excited and let me tell you, standing in that ikea in front of a crib with my hands resting on the side of it was the most surreal feeling ever.  When did we become old enough to have a baby?  When did we go from “yeah maybe in 5 years…” to “hey maybe we could do this now?”.  Its so amazing and wonderful and terrifying and incredibly ridiculous all at the same time.  I’m so glad that I get to do this with Brett and when we talk about our little girl and the dreams and plans we have for our family I feel so lucky.  And when we talk about how scared out of our minds we are and how we have literally no idea what we are doing, I feel even more lucky that I’m not in this alone and that my husband is just as clueless and scared and excited as I am.  That may not make sense, but its oddly comforting.

Anywho…in the midst of hanging out with some of my favorite people this weekend I actually got enough energy to get our spare room in order for some baby craftin.  I really wish I had a before photo so that you all could be impressed with how much I did.  Our spare room was FULL of boxes, some empty and some full of random crap, from our move (no worries…i did not lift things…there was a lot of scooting, pushing and sweet maneuvering skills…but no lifting).  Our friend Eric came over and helped put up our curtains and my friend Faith and I hung out and made some pom garland for above the crib.  I did all this stuff before Brett came home from work so I could surprise him with all the good work i did : ).  Then he surprised me today by building the crib while I’m at work (we like to surprise each other with things).

It’s definitely coming together and also has a long way to go, but I’m already in love with the direction its taking.  I’m on the hunt for a dresser to refurbish for the changing table, we have some shelves we’re going to hang above that, and im scouring all etsy sites for cute little prints to hang up.  I cant wait till that little white book shelf is full of books to read to our little Penny and it will be awesome to see her snuggled up to mine and bretts childhood stuffed animals (fuzzy the blue bear and bubba the dolphin).

I cant wait to meet this little girl that is just gonna rock mine and bretts world.  Shes already so awesome.
